Postage
I am sure that it is news to you that the cost of postage is set to rise in the UK at the end of April, for most small businesses including mine that does mean that the cost of sending parcels is going up. I spoke to the postmaster at my local post office recently and he advised me that a parcel that cost just £1.58 now will go up to £2.70, that’s before you even add the cost of packaging.
So I guess in a sense this is just a prior warning that as of the end of April I have to put up my postage charges in order to remain trading, it is simply impossible for me to absorb these cost. As most of my business is done through Etsy my postage charges showing in there will be adapted to reflect the changes.

New Things
There are lots of reasons why I love what I do but the one that I enjoy the most is the process of learning new things.
This week I decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at fold forming ( a technique created by Charles Lewton-Brain by which you work flat pieces of metal folding and hammering and sometimes passing them through the rolling mill to create 3d works)
The piece that I am especially pleased with is this one: 
I am hoping very soon to incorporate this method into some jewellery so watch this space

Evolution…..
Welcome to the new and improved Soul Silver website.
For a while I have been unhappy with my website, it felt somewhat impersonal, so this is my new work in progress. One of the things I have learnt this year is that my work, business and website is constantly evolving, growing and developing. Sometimes as a result of my customers requests, sometimes following a new idea. Which ever way it happens its never a bad thing
So, you will now find links to my Etsy store at the top of the page for my beads and in a few weeks there will be a new Etsy store for my jewellery, there are several reasons that I have wanted to sell my jewellery through Etsy, one thing is that I love the way etsy works, its back office functions are superb, they constantly respond to the demands of the people using it, another reason is that there is huge market out there, and whilst that may mean more competition it also means that my work is available to a wider audience. I cannot begin to describe how exciting it is when something you have made goes on a journey, sometimes down the road, sometimes half way across the world.
Another reason for this new layout is that I wanted a blog section as an integral part of the site so that I can update customers on news, new work and anything else exciting that might happen
